Public Market moving
Pittsburgh Public Market will be open in its present (and original) location in the Strip District Produce Terminal through this Sunday, Sept. 15. The market then will close for two weeks in order to move to the new location at 2401 Penn Ave. Soft opening is planned for Oct. 2, with a grand opening celebration in November. Strip District World Festival: Family festival with food and entertainment from various regions of the world (Irish, Italian, Chinese, Latin, German, Polish and more). 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday from 22nd to 25th streets in the Strip District. stripdistrictworldfestival.com.
Pennsylvania Wine & Music Festival: Fourteen wineries with more than 120 Pennsylvania wines, plus food, music and specialty vendors. Herbs & Spices of Indian Cooking: Learn about common herbs and spices used in Indian fare, and try samples. 1:30 p.m. Sept. 21 at Phipps Conservatory in Oakland. 412-622-6914.
Soup Sega!: On Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon, the Bulgarian Macedonian National Educational and Cultural Center in West Homestead sells soup to fund the center's arts, education and preservation programs. Fourteen varieties of homemade, traditional Bulgarian soups are available, along with stuffed peppers, beef stew, strudel and other Bulgarian delicacies. Preorders: 412-416-6188 or bmnecc.org.
Firehouse Chili Cook-off: The defending champs, Pittsburgh's Eight Engine and Truck Co. in East Liberty, will take on No. 32 Engine Co. in Spring Garden in the third-annual chili cook-off competition at the East Liberty Citiparks Farmers Market from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16. Sample both chilis for a small donation and proceeds benefit the Matthew Onyshko Fund (for a firefighter diagnosed with ALS). More at http://pittsburghpa.gov/citiparks/farmers-market.
