A look at summer fashion trends

Peplum parade: Dresses that are fitted, except for a slight flair at the waist, have been heating up runways for a while now. Incorporate them into your summer attire with tops that similarly flair at the waist, a perfect companion for leggings, skinny jeans or shorts.
White, the new black: Labor Day is a long way off (not that it matters anymore!), so break out the white. Put away the darks and go for slender pants, dresses, purses, nail polish -- anything white! Pair it with something bright or pastel, or keep it pure and pristine.
Tribal inspired: Give your style some global flavor with richly colored prints that channel the look of faraway lands. You can dress like an African princess without leaving the homeland.
Wallpaper patterns (they're back): Fun, whimsical patterns (florals, fruits, geometrics, etc.) were all over ensembles this spring like flowers blanketing a field -- and they're not going anywhere. Pattern-heavy apparel is still in bloom, with either a single print covering an entire outfit or multiple designs mixed together to create a pattern-blocked look.
High/low hemlines: Call it asymmetrical, high/low or even a mullet dress. Whatever name you give it, dresses with skirts that are short in front and dip to the floor in back are a good compromise for the woman torn between rocking a cocktail dress or something longer. (Also good for the gal who wants to show off her beach-bronzed legs but still look elegant.)
Sporty, relaxed fits: Breathability is key for clothes on steamy summer days. Sporty silhouettes flatter the figure yet hang loose enough to provide a comfortable fit.
Scarves -- not just for winter anymore: Don't wait for temperatures to drop to wrap up in a colorful scarf. Lightweight ones in striking colors can add personality to a solid tank, tee or little black dress. It also can double as a shawl to keep cozy in the evening breeze.
Pops of neon: Last summer, the colors of the season were as bright as the sun's rays, with neon orange, hot pink, caution yellow and other shockingly bold shades painting outfits from head to toe. This year, moderation is key for wearing these colors. Neon accessories, handbags, nail polish and shoes punctuate softer looks, rather than dominating.
Comfy-yet-chic shoes: Hit the beach or the street in footwear that impresses without impairing your tootsies. Choices include flats, jelly shoes, boat shoes, micro wedge sandals, gladiator-style flats, espadrilles and the all-American white canvas sneaker.
Keep it colorful with coral: This is the year of emerald, according to color experts at Pantone, but coral is nipping at its heels on the yellow brick road. The warm orangey hue is many designers' go-to color for giving pants, dresses, tops, accessories and even shoes a sun-kissed glow.
