NEW YORK -- The fashion world didn't know if it would see this day again -- Betsey Johnson at the tents at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. In September, the 70-year-old designer celebrated her career with a retrospective runway show and vowed that she was sitting this season out. But at the last minute, she decided to delight crowds with her signature catwalk cartwheel one more time.
Backstage, it was hard not to catch Betsey mania, with bubblegum pink balloons, a cupcake tower, champagne, lollipops, licorice and roses. The models' looks were equally fun and funky with rainbow wigs layered atop long sleek ponytails. The makeup was bright and colorful, while nails were black with "B. J. K. A." (for "Betsey Johnson Kicks A--") spelled out across them in white. As models got ready, the pint-sized designer in a gray sweatshirt and yellow boots showed off her new activewear line to media.

No one does preppy quite like J. Crew. At Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, there were lots of sparkles, neons and layering of prints for women, a common theme this Fashion Week. Similar to other designers' collections, elbow-length and short leather gloves in rich colors accentuated looks. Silhouettes varied, from slender patterned pants to boxier over-size coats.
For men, J. Crew kept clothes casual and cool. Suits were fitted with head-to-toe textured fabrics or patterns, such as plaid. Blazers and scarves were paired with sweaters and sweatshirts, and jeans in dark washes had cuffs rolled up to show off lace-up dress shoes and buckled slip-ons in black and camel tones.
