"It's the most wonderful time of the year," Andy Williams crooned. Dress for it with pieces that are fun, fashionable and functional for party hopping, cookie baking, stocking stuffing, present hunting or whatever else this time of year may bring. Here are some suggestions for keeping your style jolly and bright.

On Christmas morning

Opening presents in your PJs brings out the kid in all of us. The big difference is that now you care that someone might be taking your picture for posterity. Loungewear styled in holiday prints provides extra coverage and coziness without looking like pajamas. Embraceable Cool Nights snowflakes blackberry PJ set, $49 at Soma Intimates.

O holy night

For many faiths, December is one of most sacred months of the year. Reflect the season's serene side by wearing to worship solids and simple silhouettes such as a sheath dress or a structured pant suit with dress coat in coordinating colors. St. John Milano knit cocoon jacket, $1,295 at www.saks.com.

Rockin' around the Christmas tree

Is your social calendar as packed as Santa's sleigh on Christmas Eve? Change your outfit from one party to the next by mixing eye-catching statement pieces like this I.N.C. International Concepts sequined jacket ($89.50) and top ($69.50) from Macy's with such neutral staples as black skinny jeans, slacks or a pencil skirt. The same top matched with different bottoms will give you a new look for every function.

Dashing through the snow

Whether sledding, caroling or riding in a one-horse open sleigh, bundle up in a puffer coat to block out the winter chill. For warmth, find one with a faux fur collar or hood trimmed in fur. Ralph Lauren shearling-collar down jacket in winter cream, $598 at ralphlauren.com.

To grandmother's house we go

The holidays are a time for gathering to share stories, food and companionship. Keep comfortable with a chunky cable-knit pullover, cardigan or turtleneck paired with pants with some stretch. Mix in a touch of holiday cheer with patterns and accessories in cranberry or hunter green, or try a plaid that incorporates seasonal shades. Handknit popcorn sweater, $138, and cafe capri pant, $168, by J.Crew.

Ringin' in the new year

Welcome 2013 with an outfit that channels the sparkle of Times Square's famed Waterford crystal ball. But unlike the Big Apple's centerpiece, a glitzy dress in bold hues of gold, silver or red will continue to catch looks well after the stroke of midnight. LC Lauren Conrad sequined dress, $80 at Kohl's.
