Andrew Bayne Memorial Library & Park

Description

The Andrew Bayne Memorial Library is a public library in Bellevue, a small town of 9,000 people north of Pittsburgh.

The library is housed in a Victorian home built in 1875 designed by noted local architect James Madison Balph. His wife, Amanda Bayne Balph (daughter of Allegheny County Sherrif Andrew Bayne), bequeathed the home to Bellevue upon her death in 1912.

There is a marble fireplace in each room of the house, and James Balph's initials are engraved in the glass transom over the front door. Outside is a bronze sculpture of a soldier as an artisan and a worker, but also a man of heroic courage erected in honor of World War I veterans.

The rooms on the ground-floor house the non-fiction and adult and young adult fiction collections as well as a staff work area. The video and juvenile collections are located on the second floor as is a conference room used for various activities. Computer stations for patron use are located on both floors.

The library is accompanied by a park that includes a playground, gazebo and large field for outdoor sports and community events.

Monday through Thursday, 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Friday & Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
