This exhibit surveys the prolific artistic production of Pittsburgh artist and teacher Philip Mendlow.
He experimented with a variety of media, his work embodying a spirit of eclecticism in style and subject matter. Mendlow’s early figural, still-life and landscape paintings verged on abstraction yet remained representational. Turning his attention to three-dimensional work, Mendlow spent the greater part of his career as a sculptor, creating biomorphic, totem-like and figural pieces working expertly in wood, metal and clay.
"Body Of Work" offers the first comprehensive look at Philip Mendlow’s extensive career and includes numerous examples of painting, work on paper and sculpture.
