Duquesne University announced to its campus community today that its "Advancing Our Legacy" capital campaign raised $163,588,556, exceeding an announced goal of $150 million.

The announcement follows one made at a gala event Friday.

Of the money raised, more than $72.7 million is earmarked for endowments, including 114 new endowed scholarships and 109 funds to support programs permanently.

Overall, there were 63,961 total donors, more than half making their first gifts to the university.

Contributions included more than 2,300 corporations and foundations, which gave more than $49 million, and nearly 1,100 faculty and staff who donated more than $2 million.

The largest individual gift in the campaign and in the university's history was $12.5 million from the estate of philanthropist William S. Dietrich II.

Twenty gifts exceeded $1 million.
