Duquesne fell way behind North Dakota State and that was probably the worst thing the Dukes could have done given the disciplined and methodical style of play of the Bison.

The Dukes missed their first eight shots and fell into a 9-0 hole in the game's first five minutes and that bad start proved to be too much to overcome as they weren't ever able to recover and fell, 57-43, to the Bison tonight at the Palumbo Center.

North Dakota State (4-1) started the game hot as they made their first four shots and the Bison took control of the game from the start and never really let the Dukes (1-3) crawl back in it.

The Bison had led 9-0, 19-5 and stretched it to a first-half high of 19 points -- 29-10 -- on a 3-pointer by Mike Felt with 6:44 to play in the half.

Duquesne, which tried to slow the Bison momentum by switching to a 2-3 zone, then mounted a comeback of sorts as the Dukes went on a 9-0 run and pulled to within 29-19 on a tip-in by Derrick Martin with 3:23 remaining.

But the Bison got back on track with a 3-pointer by Taylor Braun and stretched their lead to 15 points -- 34-19 -- at the half.

The Dukes scored the first five points of the second half to again pull to within ten -- 34-24 -- but the Bison made a 15-0 run from the 16:05 mark of the second half to the 12:26 mark and maintained at least a 19-point cushion for most of the rest of the game until very late when both coaches emptied their benches.

The Dukes, who were 3-for-18 from the 3-point line, were led by Andre Marhold with 9 points and Sean Johnson with 8.

Taylor Wright scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Bison, who will play James Madison Wednesday in the first game of a doubleheader at 4:30 at the Palumbo Center.

Duquesne will play Youngstown State in the second game of the doubleheader, which will tip off 30 minutes after the end of the North Dakota State-JMU game. breaking - duquesnesports
