The debut cookbook by the acclaimed Indian restaurant in Washington, D.C., features recipes of its popular dishes.
Bluebird Kitchen will open a second location by November at 11 Stanwix St. in the First Niagara Building.
Owner Liz Moore hopes the space will serve as a more convenient location for workers in that building as well as employees who work closer to Point State Park. Coffee and pastries will be served, as well as an abbreviated menu, because the second location features a kitchen without a stove.
Ms. Moore opened Bluebird Kitchen in May 2012 at 221 Forbes Ave., just off Market Square, serving made-to-order breakfast, sandwiches, salads and pastries. Steven Thompson will remain chef with Julie Cogley making pastries.
Livermore soft opening
From the team behind Bar Marco in the Strip, The Livermore opened in East Liberty on Friday. It's a cocktail bar-cafe in what had been the Waffle Shop at 124 S. Highland Ave.
The opening day menu featured spicy nuts, deviled eggs, five types of crostini, a selection of sandwiches, salads, meats, cheeses and chocolates.
Served in fetching glassware, cocktails include the Almost Home, made with Mancanilla sherry, Yamazaki 12-year-old whiskey and lavender honey syrup, and the Scarlet Begoniam made with Hendrick's gin, Ferreira white port, Luxardo and rose.
Mr. Fry along with partners Justin Steel, Kevin Cox and Bar Marco chef Jamilka Borges will make adjustments to menus based on early feedback and sales.
This week, the bar will be open from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. through Saturday. Extended hours -- 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. -- will begin Monday.
