Variety the Children's Charity of Pittsburgh received a $30,000 grant from the Dominion Foundation to sponsor its 2011 Gold Heart Pin Campaign. The grant will provide Variety with the resources to purchase 10,000 gold heart pins and associated marketing materials including theater posters, standees and countertop displays.


Dennis L. Travis of Greater Pittsburgh MetLife was named a 2010 FIVE STAR Wealth Manager. Crescendo Business Services LLC, a Minnesota-based customer satisfaction ratings company, working with city and regional magazines, presents the award to professionals in many industries and markets.

Kenneth C. McCrory received the 2010 Distinguished Public Service Award from the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Mr. McCrory is a principal with McCrory & McDowell LLC.

Dean Christopher Duncan of Duquesne University's McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts was recognized for his writing by the Associated Church Press. Mr. Duncan received an Award of Excellence in the personal experience/first-person account: short format category. The article, titled Pulling Punches, explored the role, place and tension surrounding fighting, self-defense, success and the Christian call to nonviolence in American life.

Albert Bates, construction litigation partner, Duane Morris, was certified by the International Mediation Institute as a certified mediator.

Richard McKenna, business advisers manager, Schneider Downs, earned the APICS Certified Supply Chain Professional designation. The APICS CSCP designation is granted by APICS, The Association for Operations Management, and signifies that recipients have met the highest levels of professional standards and have an in-depth knowledge of integrated supply chain management.

Brian C. Vertz, a partner of Pollock Begg Komar Glasser, was appointed to the board of examiners for the Pennsylvania chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, a national organization dedicated to the improvement of family law practice.

Greg Babe, president and CEO of Bayer Corp. and Bayer MaterialScience LLC, received the American Association of People with Disabilities "Justice for All" award. The annual award recognizes individuals who champion the professional and economic advancement of people with disabilities.

NAI Pittsburgh Commercial said Raymond C. Orowetz, passed the LEED Green Associate exam administered by the Green Building Certification Institute. It knowledge of green building principles, technologies, best practices and the rapidly evolving LEED Rating System. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is an internationally recognized third-party green building certification system and the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance buildings.

Tom Pepka, executive chef of Oakmont Country Club, was inducted into the American Academy of Chefs by the prestigious honor society of the American Culinary Federation. The American Academy of Chefs, the honor society of the American Culinary Federation, was established in 1955 by the ACF Board of Directors. The prestigious Academy recognizes those individuals whose outstanding achievements in the culinary profession and involvement in ACF deserve acknowledgement. Demanding criteria must be met in order to be elected to the AAC.

In the latest issue of Qualified Remodeler Magazine, Legacy Remodeling was listed number 146 on the list of "Quality Remodelers." The list is part of the magazine's annual "Quality Remodelers Top 500," which ranks remodeling companies throughout the country.

UPMC has received the top honor from the Profiles in Diversity Journal, winning a 2010 Innovations in Diversity Award. The award recognizes organizations, corporations and institutions that have developed innovative solutions with measurable outcomes in work force diversity and inclusion. UPMC placed No. 1 out of 10 award winners nationwide for its Dignity and Respect campaign. UPMC's Dignity and Respect Campaign joins individuals, community leaders, community organizations, educational institutions, businesses and corporations under the common notion that everyone deserves dignity and respect.

The Product Development and Management Association, a global network of product innovation professionals, announced Kennametal Inc. as the winner of its 2010 Outstanding Corporate Innovator award.
