Sisterson & Co. Bryan Ward and Ty Ballou were re-elected to one-year terms as national vice presidents with the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Mr. Ward is the founder, CEO and COO of Giant Ideas, and Mr. Ballou is the president and CEO of Public Label Brands Inc.

Matthew Galluzzo was named executive director of the Lawrenceville Corp.

The Construction Legislative Council of Western Pennsylvania elected officers for the 2010-2011 year -- Chairwoman: Paula Maynes, American Institute of Architects, Pittsburgh Chapter; vice-chairman: William Ligetti, Ironworkers Employers Association of Western PA; treasurer: Michel Sadaka, Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers; secretary: Jon O'Brien, Master Builders' Association of Western PA.


Scott Wayne joined Mercer's health and benefits business as a partner and senior health and benefits consultant.


Aleem Gangjee was appointed the inaugural Adrian Van Kaam, C.S.Sp., chair in scholarly excellence at Duquesne University. Mr. Gangjee is a professor of medicinal chemistry and a Mylan School of Pharmacy distinguished professor.

Robert Huemmrich was promoted to director of the Barnes Center at Clarion University and the Center for Applied Research and Intellectual Property Development. The Barnes Center houses the university's Small Business Development Center.

Robert Morris University named Anthony R. Petroy, assistant vice president, online and off campus programs; Mark E. Kassel, director of curriculum and instructional design; Adam Sullivan, curriculum and instructional designer; Debbie Houy, manager of online student support services; Connie Barlamas, online admissions counselor; and Lori Bittner, online admissions counselor.

Thomas J. Nist was named director of graduate programs in the Donahue Graduate School of Business, Duquesne University.

Pressley Ridge named Jane Wintz senior director of Western Pennsylvania's Treatment Foster Care and Community-based Services.

Health & Medicine

Turtle Creek Valley MH/MR Inc. hired Bernard Kuzma as human resources director.


Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott said Harold F. Balk joined as director of business development.

Jonathan P. Altman joined Sherrard German & Kelly as a member of its corporate services, financial services and real estate groups. Mr. Altman focuses on mergers and acquisitions, financing transactions, real estate law, securities law and general corporate matters.

Cohen & Grigsby hired attorneys Clifford B. Levine and Alice B. Mitinger. Mr. Levine has experience in complex commercial and governmental litigation, as well as land use development, environmental, energy and construction litigation and counseling. Mr. Mitinger has experience in land use litigation and development and with appellate, regulatory, administrative and election law issues.

Chris Furman joined Blumling & Gusky as an associate in the litigation practice group and will focus on commercial litigation.

Thorp Reed & Armstrong hired attorney Joni Landy to join its employee benefits and executive compensation practice group. Ms. Landy focuses on the areas of health and welfare benefits and health care matters, including health care reform.

Chatham University hired Wendy Beckemeyer as its new vice president for enrollment management.


Tube City IMS Corp. promoted Joseph Jung to vice president, European operations; Pascal Martin, general manager, also responsible for the company's U.S.-based surface conditioning operations; Jean-Claude DeMay, site manager, surface conditioning operation. Andy Torn joined its subsidiary, Tube City IMS UK, based in Scunthorpe, England, as operations and commercial manager.


The American Red Cross Southwestern Pennsylvania Chapter elected James Garraux as its new chairman. Mr. Garraux is general counsel and senior vice president-corporate affairs, United States Steel.

The Children's Home of Pittsburgh & Lemieux Family Center appointed Bob Barton, facilities manager; hired Tara Stief, junior marketing associate, and Linda Wigle, administrative coordinator in adoption.

Richard Finley and Susan Vertosick are serving on the newly formed Development Advisory Board for the Sisters of Mercy New York, Pennsylvania, Pacific West Community.

The Mediation Council of Western Pennsylvania elected members to its board. David Breen, Laura Candris, Sally Cimini, Mark Greenblatt, Jean Lupariello, Mike McDowell, and Selina Shultz.

Ernst & Young LLP promoted Kim Gillespie to partner, assurance practice and Darrell Smalley, principal, tax practice.


The Lavidge Co., Phoenix, appointed Pittsburgh native David Nobs, a veteran marketing and communications executive, to lead business development for the Phoenix advertising agency.
