square-foot headquarters was presented a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.
The University of Pittsburgh's David Berg Center for Ethics and Leadership and Beta Alpha Psi, an organization for financial information students and professionals, named KPMG LLP as the first winner of its Financial Stewardship Award for exemplifying high ethical standards in the financial services industry. KPMG LLP, the tax, audit and advisory firm, was chosen over about a dozen entrants in the category.
Carrie Coghill-Kuntz, president, D.B. Root, was named by Barron's Magazine to its 2010 Top 1000 Financial Advisors in their annual state-by-state listing.
Georganne Yandura, a licensed insurance producer with E. R. Munro and Co., has earned the designation of Certified Insurance Service Representative. Ms. Yandura completed five, one-day courses covering all areas of insurance risks and exposures and passed intensive examinations. The designation is awarded by the Society of CISR, a not-for-profit organization and member of The National Alliance for Insurance Education & Research.
The Community College of Allegheny County was named to the 2009 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for its commitment to volunteering, service-learning and civic engagement. The Corporation for National and Community Service, which administers the annual Honor Roll award, recognized more than 700 colleges and universities for their impact on issues from poverty and homelessness to environmental justice.
Dr. Peggy A. Houglum, associate professor in the Duquesne University Rangos School of Health Sciences' athletic training department, was named by Therapy Times as Most Influential Rehabilitation Professional in Physical Therapy for 2009. The award is presented to rehabilitation specialists who demonstrate a "passion for therapy and an uncommon dedication to high quality patient care."
A faculty member at Duquesne since 2001, Houglum has more than 30 years of experience in physical therapy and athletic training, and specializes in rehabilitation and therapeutic exercise. She is a practicing physical therapist as well as a renowned educator who literally "wrote the book" on rehabilitation techniques for athletic training students. Therapeutic Exercise for Musculoskeletal Injuries, first published in 2000, is used as an academic textbook for more than 60 percent of athletic training education programs, as well as a reference text for practicing clinicians.
Gorell Windows & Doors was recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy as winner of the prestigious Energy Star Partner of the Year Award for the seventh straight year. Gorell received the "Sustained Excellence"Award-bestowed only on organizations that have won the Energy StarPartner of the Year award three or more consecutive times-for the fifth consecutive year. Gorell won for its continued leadership in protecting the environment through manufacturing highly energy-efficient windows and doors and promoting the Energy Starprogram as part of its green efforts.
