Landau Building Co. completed several projects at UPMC Braddock. The MRI addition and site improvements projects consisted of a three-story addition containing a new MRI on one level and a new two-story entry lobby on another level. Major site/landscape improvements including a physician parking lot was part of the contract. The 2 West and 4 West Interior Renovation project consisted of interior renovations to the existing patient units on levels 2 West and 4 West of the hospital.


Sarah Heinz House received a $15,000 PNC Charitable Trust grant for after school programs, a $5000 Westinghouse Co. grant for robotics and a $10,000 MetLife Foundation grant for literacy programs.


Attorneys Todd Berkey, Dennis Liotta, Richard Rosenthal and Michael Rosenzweig, partners at Edgar Snyder & Associates, were selected for inclusion in the 2010 edition of The Best Lawyers in America.

Duane Morris LLP said the International Women's Forum selected partner Cynthia Baldwin as a 2009 recipient of its Women Who Make a Difference Award. The award is given annually to members of IWF affiliates who act as prominent advocates for the advancement of women and display enlightened leadership. Ms. Baldwin was honored in recognition of her outstanding achievements in the field of law and her reputation as an exemplary role model for women's progress. She is the second African-American woman to serve as a justice of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court and the first African-American woman to be elected a judge of the Allegheny County Common Pleas Court, a post she held for 16 years. Ms. Baldwin practices in the area of litigation with a focus on appellate litigation and nonprofit governance.

Giant Eagle Inc. received three awards from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's GreenChill Advanced Refrigeration Partnership at the Food Marketing Institute's Sustainability Summit held in San Francisco: the 2008 Best Partner Emissions Rate Award for achieving the lowest refrigerant leak rate of GreenChill partners; the 2008 Exceptional Goal Achievement Award for exceeding GreenChill standards in reductions of refrigerant emissions; and the 2008 Superior Goal Achievement Award for achieving GreenChill's target rate for overall emissions. The GreenChill Advanced Refrigeration Partnership is an EPA program in which participating supermarkets, refrigeration equipment manufacturers and other stakeholders work together to help reduce refrigerant leaks and potentially damaging emissions.

Dr. Leni Resick, associate professor of nursing at Duquesne University, was inducted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners at its national conference. The AANP's Fellow program was established in 2000 to recognize nurse practitioner leaders who have made outstanding contributions to health care through nurse practitioner clinical practice, research, education or policy.

The Allegheny County Health Department recognized Dr. Todd Wolynn of Squirrel Hill, a pediatrician and board-certified lactation consultant, for his work to promote breast-feeding and support of breast-feeding mothers and their babies. Dr. Wolynn is the executive director of The Breastfeeding Center of Pittsburgh. He helped create the organization in 2006 to promote services, research, education, reform and advocacy for breast-feeding. Under his leadership, the center has developed many corporate breast-feeding support programs.

Norene Auer, tobacco cessation coordinator, Excela Health, was designated a Certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist, following coursework through the University of Massachusetts Medical School. the program consists of a self-paced online course and a five-day in person Core Certification course, the course is an intensive, evidence-based training program designed for persons who deliver moderate to intensive tobacco treatment services within a health care or community setting.

The Rodgers Insurance Group Inc. was honored with the President's Award for its superior performance and outstanding commitment to Ohio Casualty, a Liberty Mutual Agency Markets regional company.

The AIA-MBA Joint Committee said Ted Frantz was the inaugural recipient of the James Kling Fellowship Award. Mr. Frantz, founder of TEDCO Construction. The James Kling Fellowship Award was established by the AIA-MBA Joint Committee to recognize those individuals who best exemplify collaboration between the design and constructor professions.

Allegheny General Hospital was named one of the nation's Top Radiation Therapy Centers to Watch in 2009 by Imaging Technology News. The magazine lauds AGH's Department of Radiation Oncology for its investment in state-of-the-art technology, operational efficiency, exceptional patient care services and status as an influential market leader in cancer treatment. Imaging Technology's annual review of hospitals recognizes the most advanced and "forward-thinking" U.S. cancer treatment centers.

Jason Nadzam, assistant professor of automotive engineering, Community College of Allegheny County, earned World Class Technician status from General Motors Service Technical College.

The recognition provides technicians the opportunity to validate their knowledge and demonstrate their skills to employers and customers. Service technicians achieve this status when they successfully complete eight of the nine GM Master Technician Certifications in the mechanical area, along with accompanying ASE certification (Automotive Service Excellence).
