Barksdale, Slippery Rock blow out No. 7 IUP, 41-16

His team with an opportunity to take control of the PSAC West Division, quarterback Nigel Barksdale accounted for 517 yards of total offense and three touchdowns as host Slippery Rock routed No. 7 IUP, 41-16, Saturday at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

The Crimson Hawks (5-1), who entered the game with the top-ranked scoring defense in Division II at 6.0 points allowed per game, allowed their highest scoring total since 2010. The final score was also their most lopsided loss since 2010.

The Rock (5-1) raced out to a 28-0 lead in the first half and from that point, IUP got no closer than 25 points.

Barksdale, a junior college transfer, threw for 425 yards and two touchdowns and added another 68 yards and a touchdown rushing.

John Schademan, a Bethel Park graduate, had six catches for 170 yards and two touchdowns.

As a team, Slippery Rock put up 676 total yards while limiting IUP to 337 yards, only 59 of which came on the ground.

• Duquesne 34, Wagner 7: Leading, 10-7, going into the fourth quarter, the Dukes (3-2) got touchdowns from Ryan Ho, Devin Rahming and Ethan Dorsey as they scored on four of their final five drives to easily defeat the visiting Seahawks (2-4).

• Washington & Jefferson 45, Thomas More 21: Keystone Oaks graduate Dion Wiegand rushed for 111 yards and two touchdowns as the host Presidents (4-2) handed the No. 20 Saints (4-1) their first loss of the season.

• Westminster 27, Carnegie Mellon 24: Gateway graduate Rob Kalkstein completed 18 of 25 passes for three touchdowns and a season-high 305 yards, but the visiting Tartans (3-3) fell to the Titans (2-3) despite outgaining them, 457-329.

• California 35, Clarion 7: Jeff Knox Jr. rushed for 89 yards and two touchdowns as the host Vulcans (4-2) scored 21 fourth-quarter points to run away from the Golden Eagles (3-3), who have lost three consecutive games since starting 3-0.

• Waynesburg 38, Grove City 0: Carter Hill completed 22 of 38 passes for 332 yards and four touchdowns to four receivers as the visiting Yellow Jackets (5-1) recorded their first shutout of the season, defeating the Wolverines (3-3).

• Gannon 55, Edinboro 14: Jansen Jones rushed for 209 yards and four touchdowns, helping to pace an offense that had 611 total yards as the host Golden Knights (4-2) rolled past the Fighting Scots (3-3).

• Mercyhurst 50, Seton Hill 19: Alec Swartz threw for 168 yards and three touchdowns, Brandon Brown-Dukes rushed for 127 yards and a touchdown and the visiting Lakers (3-3) won consecutive games for the first time this season, defeating the Griffins (0-6).

• Saint Francis 28, Monmouth 10: The Red Flash (2-4) returned two first-quarter turnovers, one fumble and one interception, for touchdowns, setting the tone in a victory against the visiting Hawks (3-4).
