2008 New Car & Truck Preview: This will be the year of the family car
Wednesday, October 24, 2007

Family car owners, this is your year.

Automakers are unleashing a slew of new family cars, so that means that you have some showroom visiting to do this year if you are in the market for a set of wheels.

Among the all-new models either on the showroom floor now or soon to arrive are: Chevrolet Malibu, Honda Accord, Dodge Grand Caravan, Chrysler Town & Country, Ford Focus, Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable.

These cars have a lot of family-friendly features and technology, so there will be plenty for you to learn if you haven't bought a family car in a while.

And even better news: Prices are pretty much holding the line, with only modest increases, if any. There also are many car companies packing their models with lots more standard equipment at lower prices, such as Chrysler LLC's minivan twins.

High-performance cars and luxury sedans also are in for big changes in 2008. Chief among those is the fabulous new 2008 Cadillac CTS, a car you don't want to miss even if you're not in the market. The cars are so well done and good examples of the state of the art these days in the domestic car industry.

You also won't want to miss the 2008 Mitsubishi Evo and Subaru Impreza WRX STi, due out in a couple of months.

Also new, and coming out later this year, will by the Pontiac G8, which marks a return to rear-wheel-drive performance cars for Pontiac. Later this year look for the long awaited Nissan GT-R, a car that is almost legendary in Japan for its incredible acceleration and handling.

And soon, Jaguar will introduce its all new XF, one of the sexiest sedans ever to come out of Europe. It's a real head turner and includes some pretty dramatic features, especially for the interior.

All in all, it's an exciting year for car buyers.

Read, dream, and enjoy!
