Local staffing firm selling segment

Pittsburgh-based IT and health care staffing firm Mastech Holdings Inc. says it is selling its health care staffing segment to Accountable Healthcare Staffing Inc., headquartered in Boca Raton, Fla., for $1 million. Accountable Healthcare will also assume certain liabilities. Including cash balances on hand, accounts receivable and other assets, the deal is worth $1.15 million. Closing is expected in the current quarter.

Startup accelerator leases more space

AlphaLab, a South Side-based startup accelerator program, has leased an East Liberty space for its hardware accelerator program, AlphaLab Gear. The 10,000-square-foot Broad Street space provides work tables and bench spaces for companies to develop prototypes. AlphaLab Gear is accepting applications for its first cycle of companies through Sept. 3. Visit to apply.

Female professional award finalists named

The Allegheny Conference on Community Development has named the finalists for the Greater Pittsburgh Athena Awards, which recognize professional excellence, contributions to the community and mentorship of other women: Lenore Blum, distinguished career professor of computer science, Carnegie Mellon University; Theresa Bone, vice president and corporate controller, EQT Corp.; Maurita Bryant, assistant chief, Pittsburgh Bureau of Police; Laura Ellsworth, partner-in-charge, Jones Day, Pittsburgh; and Titina Ott, vice president worldwide alliance and channels, Oracle Corp. The winner will be named Sept. 30.

New Siemens finance head

Siemens appointed finance chief Joe Kaeser as its new chief executive Wednesday, handing a manager with more than 30 years' experience at the industrial conglomerate with a major presence in Western Pennsylvania the task of improving its fortunes after missed profit targets led to the departure of predecessor Peter Loescher. The 56-year-old Mr. Kaeser will take office today.

Citizens clearing up checking accounts

Citizens Bank said it developed a simplified format for explaining key terms and features of its checking accounts, plus an online resource center to better explain overdraft protection. Citizens said the simplified two-page checking account guides, available online and in branches, were modeled after recommendations made by the Pew Charitable Trusts. Pew on Wednesday applauded the move.

Google settlement cash en route to CMU

CMU is one of seven organizations that will receive a portion of an $8.5 million settlement to be paid by Google to resolve a class action lawsuit. The suit, filed in 2010, alleges that Google shared users' search information with third parties without their knowledge. The settlement also requires Google to inform users when their search information is transferred to third parties. The settlement is expected to be approved later this month.

3-D printing firm opens Brazil, China sites

The ExOne Company said it has opened sales offices in Sao Paulo and Shanghai. The 3-D printing company also said it opened a production service center in Auburn, Wash. It is one of six centers the North Huntingdon company uses to familiarize customers with its technology.

Black-owned firm here noted

Pittsburgh-based Urban Lending Solutions has made Black Enterprise Magazine's list of the 100 largest black-owned businesses in the U.S. With $183.5 million in revenue last year, the company located at 1001 Liberty Ave., employs more than 2,500 workers and has additional offices in Broomfield and Littleton, Colo. Its founder and CEO, Chuck Sanders, also was named one of the top 10 black entrepreneurs in the nation by Inc. 500 Magazine.

F-150 natural gas systems

Ford Motor Co. plans to begin offering compressed natural gas fuel systems for its F-150 pickups to meet growing demand from business fleets and attract retail buyers. Natural gas prices have fallen as U.S. production surged with horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing.
