West Penn Allegheny Health System and affiliate Canonsburg General Hospital plan to open a new multispecialty ambulatory care center in Peters at the former Radicchio Complex on Gallery Drive, just off Route 19. The center will include an urgent care center, primary care physician offices, medical and radiation oncology services, laboratory services and advanced diagnostic imaging. Construction is slated for completion in the next 18 months. Health system officials expect to invest about $14 million to develop the 55,000 square foot facility.
Pittsburgh private equity firm 3 Rivers Capital said it had acquired Hausted Patient Handling from Steris Corp. Terms were not disclosed. Hausted is based in Montgomery, Ala., where it makes stretchers, chairs and other equipment used to move patients at hospitals and other health care facilities.
To appeal to families ready to graduate from the Nintendo Wii, Microsoft Corp. wants to build on the success of the Wii's motion-capture wand -- by getting rid of the wand entirely. On Monday at the E3 Expo a video game conference in Los Angeles, Microsoft detailed its new Kinect game technology, coming this fall for the Xbox 360 game console. The Kinect system recognizers users' gestures and voices, so you can control on-screen avatars just by moving your body. Kinect's voice feature also means you can say "pause" or "play" when watching a movie on the Xbox instead of reaching for the remote. Kinect will launch Nov. 4.
The publisher and executive editor of the Beaver County Times, Alan Buncher, was fired on Monday by the newspaper's ownership group, Calkins Media. Lisa Reese, controller of Beaver Newspapers Inc., will act as publisher, and managing editor Tom Bickert is in now charge of newsroom operations. The Times, which also owns the Ellwood City Ledger, has a daily circulation of 43,000 Monday through Friday, and distributes 50,000 newspapers on Sundays, the company website says.
