Meyer, Unkovic & Scott said Best Lawyers has selected Robert E. Dauer, Jr. as 2014 “Lawyer of the Year” for litigation - bankruptcy and David G. Oberdick as 2014 “Lawyer of the Year” for litigation - intellectual property.

Mr. Dauer is a partner and a member of its management committee and business litigation group and chairs the creditor’s rights and bankruptcy group. He focuses his practice on preparing contractual documents and terms and conditions for manufacturers and suppliers selling goods under the Uniform Commercial Code. He earned his juris doctor from the University of Pittsburgh. Mr. Oberdick is of counsel and a member of its intellectual property, corporate and business law and business litigation groups. He focuses his practice on representing and counseling individuals and companies facing intellectual property matters. He earned his juris doctor from the University of Pittsburgh.

Leech Tishman said Pamela A. Bolton joined as an associate in the energy practice group. Prior to joining Leech Tishman, she was an attorney with Sadler Law During the course of her career, she has been an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in the Office of the Cuyahoga County Prosecuting Attorney, where she tried myriad cases and argued before the state’s appellate courts, including cases of first impression to the Supreme Court of Ohio. She also served as legal counsel for the Ohio Department of Public Safety.

Noah Jordan joined Rothman Gordon as an associate, practicing with the labor and employment and workers’ compensation groups. Before joining the firm, he clerked for the firm of Stember Feinstein Doyle Payne & Kravec in its labor and employment department. He also interned with Neighborhood Legal Services and the Office of the Chapter 13 Bankruptcy Trustee for the Western District of Pennsylvania. He earned his J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.

Spilman Thomas & Battle, PLLC (Spilman) said Scott Rotruck joined as director of energy and transportation services. As a member of the Spilman government relations team, focusing on the Marcellus and Utica Shale plays, he will assist clients as a problem-solver, a channel to reach policymakers, a conduit to marketplace opportunities and an experienced advisor.

Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart, P.C. (Ogletree Deakins) was named “Law Firm of the Year” in two categories, Employment Law - Management and Labor Law - Management, in the 2014 edition of the U.S. News – Best Lawyers “Best Law Firms” list. In Pittsburgh, Ogletree Deakins earned a “First-Tier” ranking in three practice area categories: Employment Law - Management; Labor Law - Management; and Litigation - Labor & Employment. Nationally, the firm has been recognized with six “First-Tier” rankings: Employee Benefits (ERISA) Law; Employment Law - Management; Immigration Law; Labor Law - Management; Litigation - Labor & Employment; and Construction Law.

Judy Shopp joined the education law team at Maiello Brungo & Maiello as senior counsel. She focuses her practice on educational issues such as special education, cyber and charter programs, litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution. Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Shopp served as chief counsel at the Pennsylvania Department of Education. In that position she served as litigation counsel, was responsible for the oversight of the Commonwealth’s cyber charter schools, and was the director of the Dispute Resolution Program in the Office of General Counsel.

Julian Gray Associates was named a Tier 1 firm in Pittsburgh for Elder Law by U.S. News - Best Lawyers “Best Law Firms” in 2014.

Cohen & Grigsby announced that attorneys Marie Rivera-Johnson and Ana María Mieles have been named partners. Ms.Rivera-Johnson is a member of the Labor & Employment Group and represents a diverse group of clients in a vast array of employment-related matters. She counsels employers on hiring, discipline and discharge decisions; drafting employment policies, agreements, non-competes and restrictive covenants; and providing supervisory and employee training on a variety of employment matters. In her practice, she also focuses on employment litigation, defending employers at all levels of state and federal court. Ms. Mieles is a member of the immigration group where she provides counsel on employment–based temporary and permanent visa categories to small- and medium-sized for profit organizations and large multinational companies, as well as on family-based permanent residence applications to individual clients.

Grogan Graffam, P.C. was named a Tier 1 Pittsburgh “Best Law Firm” in four practice areas by U.S. News – Best Lawyers in 2014. The practice areas include insurance law, legal malpractice defense, land use and zoning litigation and real estate litigation. The firm also received a Tier 2 rating in Real Estate Law.
