Sammy Sugiura Jr., litigation associate, and Ciara F. Boice, Medicare compliance associate, have joined Burns White LLC.

Mr. Sugiura Jr., a former assistant public defender, brings courtroom experience in criminal and civil matters to his practice. He is a graduate of the James E. Beasley School of Law at Temple University, where he received the Barrister Award in trial advocacy in 2005 and 2006.

An attorney and licensed registered nurse, Ms. Boice brings an understanding of the health care industry to the resolution of Medicare issues that arise in workers' compensation, general liability and Federal Employers Liability Act claims. A graduate from Duquesne University School of Law, Ms. Boice founded the university's first Health Law Society and served as its president.


The Webb Law Firm said Meghan T. Hayes has joined as an associate. Ms. Hayes, a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and recipient of a certificate in intellectual property and technology law, interned with Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas Judge Cathleen Bubash.


Dapper, Baldasare, Benson, Behling & Kane, P.C. said Robert E. Dapper Jr. has been named to the 2012 Business Edition of Super Lawyers in the practice area of litigation. Mr. Dapper was also named by Pennsylvania Super Lawyers as one of the "Top 100 Pennsylvania" and "Top 50 Pittsburgh" lawyers in 2012.


David J. Garraux, an attorney with Fox Rothschild, has relocated to Pittsburgh from the firm's Philadelphia office to expand the its labor and employment presence in Pittsburgh. Mr. Garraux focuses on employment discrimination litigation, traditional labor activities and counseling employers regarding day-to-day employment issues and best practices. He received his J.D. from Duquesne University.


Cindy Wirtz, paralegal, Pollock Begg Komar Glasser & Vertz LLC, is the recipient of the 2012 Pro Bono Achievement Award. A joint venture of the Public Service Committee of Allegheny County Bar Association and the Allegheny County Bar Foundation, the award recognizes individuals and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to the delivery of free legal services to disadvantaged individuals in Allegheny County.

Ms. Wirtz is being recognized for position as the liaison between the Pittsburgh Paralegal Association and the Neighborhood Legal Services Association for the Pittsburgh Pro Bono Partnership's newly established Signature "PFA" Project. The group provides legal assistance to nonfamily law firms in obtaining protection-from-abuse orders for individuals in need. Ms. Wirtz coordinates the scheduling of local attorneys for the representation of plaintiffs.


The following attorneys with Gentile, Horoho & Avalli, P.C. were named to 2013 edition of The Best Lawyers in America: Mark R. Alberts, Charles J. Avalli, Kerri Lee Cappella, Gary G. Gentile, Harry J. Gruener and Kenneth J. Horoho Jr. In addition, Mr. Avalli was recognized in the areas of trusts and estates, as well as trust and estate litigation.


Reed Smith and Athens-based Papapolitis & Papapolitis have announced a formal partnership. After two years of an informal working relationship, the new alliance will allow the firms to work together on the large projects and transactions anticipated in Greece as a result of the economic situation and ongoing structural reforms.
