Gov. Tom Corbett has reappointed Annie Hanna Cestra to the Pennsylvania Department of State Real Estate Commission. Ms. Cestra is the executive vice president and chief operating officer at Howard Hanna Real Estate Services.
First Niagara Financial Group Inc promoted Kris Volpatti to first vice president and commercial real estate team leader for the Western Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Ohio markets.

Minking K. Chyu, the Leighton and Mary Orr chair professor and former chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science, was appointed as the inaugural associate dean for international initiatives at the University of Pittsburgh’s Swanson School of Engineering, as well as the inaugural dean of the Sichuan University-Pittsburgh Institute in China. Brian Gleeson, the Harry S. Tack chair professor of materials science and director of Pitt’s Center for Energy, will succeed Mr. Chyu as department chair of MEMS.

Awards and Honors
M. Ravi Shankar, associate professor of industrial engineering and William Kepler Whiteford faculty fellow, was recognized by the Institute of Industrial Engineers with one of its top academic awards during the 2014 IIE Annual Conference and Expo in Montreal. Mr. Shankar received the Dr. Hamed K. Eldin Outstanding Early Career IE in Academia Award, which recognizes individuals in academia who have demonstrated outstanding characteristics in education, leadership, professionalism and potential in industrial engineering. The award also acknowledges engineering contributions in application, design, research or development of IE methods by early career IIE members. Candidates are evaluated upon research and scholarship, educational contributions, and service to the industrial engineering profession.
Two local general managers have been presented with Darden Restaurants’ Diamond Club status. Each year, general managers throughout North America who demonstrate outstanding results by showing strong and inspiring leadership while also achieving top financial performance in the company’s previous fiscal year are recognized. The local managers include: Jerry Guire of the Olive Garden in Washington and Heather Graytok of the LongHorn Steakhouse in Cranberry.
Bender Consulting Services Inc. announced that Nicole Charlotte Kay of Monaca was the winner of the 2014 Sam Miller Award. This award was established in 2012 by the Bender Consulting Services’ Bender Lead On Team, a group of high school and college students with disabilities, working to advocate for competitive employment, self-empowerment and anti-bullying. The award honors the memory of Sam Miller, who was a dedicated member of the Bender Lead On Team.
