Cowden Associates Inc. hired Michael Crawford as senior consultant in its health and benefits practice.


West Virginia University has created the Office of Graduate Admissions and Recruitment and named Tracey Sheetz its first director.


TJS Financial Services LLC said Steve Kantz joined as a financial adviser.


Ann Barrett joined Family Hospice and Palliative Care as education manager.


Tucker, Johnston & Smelzer Inc. hired Chris Zappa as a Medicare specialist and financial consultant.

Investment Management

JLL announced that Bill Leone joined the Pittsburgh office as senior vice president.


Neuro Kinetics Inc. appointed Michael Saporito as its chief financial officer. In addition, the company said that Robert Kampmeinert was elected to its board of directors. Mr. Kampmeinert retired in 2010 as chairman of Janney Montgomery Scott LLC.

Corning Corp. and the Board of Directors of Pittsburgh Corning Europe have elected James R. Kane as chairman and chief executive officer of both entities.

Real Estate

The Keller Williams South Division of Bethel Park said the following new agents joined: Steven Arciuolo, Kevin Coughey, Jean Wallace Frank, Caitlain LeDone, Cynthia Rack and Jennifer Sinsley. In addition, Bonnie Wisniewski joined its Mt. Lebanon branch.


Dana M. Bauer was appointed as the new community chapter executive of the Westmoreland-Armstrong and Indiana Chapters of the American Red Cross in the Western Pennsylvania region.

Guardian Protection Services announced that Michael Brand joined as director of the southern region.

Awards and Honors

Joseph Gibson, a Washington & Jefferson College graduate and an innovator and leader in the manufacturing industry, was honored by his alma mater with the Maurice Cleveland Waltersdorf Award for Innovative Leadership. Mr. Gibson is founder and president of Gibson Stainless & Specialty Inc., Greensburg, a leading provider of stainless steel conduit and fittings, primarily for the electrical industry.

Freddie Fu received the Elizabeth Winston Lanier Award for his career contribution to anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction and advances in patient care, an accolade considered the Nobel Prize of orthopaedic research and bestowed by the Kappa Delta Sorority along with the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation. Dr. Fu, the David Silver professor and chairman of the University of Pittsburgh Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and founder of the UPMC Center for Sports Medicine, also will receive honors in Europe and Asia over the next four months: In Amsterdam in May, the European Society of Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy is scheduled to present its highest honor to Dr. Fu by making him a Lifetime Honorary Member and a member of its Hall of Fame -- the first from Pennsylvania, the second from the United States, and only the fourth inductee to date. In Hiroshima, Japan, in July, the Japanese Orthopaedic Society of Knee, Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine will make Dr. Fu only the fourth surgeon -- and second from the Western Hemisphere -- recognized with the Masaki Watanabe Award for international achievement in arthroscopic surgery.

Yiran Chen, assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering, Pitt Swanson School of Engineering, was named the 2014 recipient of the Outstanding New Faculty Award from the Association for Computing Machinery Special Interest Group on Design Automation. The SIGDA Outstanding New Faculty Award recognizes a junior faculty member early in her or his academic career who demonstrates outstanding potential as an educator and/or researcher in the field of electronic design automation.

Dave Jones, owner of Image360 -- Pittsburgh West, received one of the top sales awards presented during the 2014 Alliance Franchise Brands Convention in Nashville, Tenn. He received the Transfer Center Sales Award presented to the top three producers of sales increases among new owners of established Image360 centers.
