Associations & Organizations

Jared Cohon, president emeritus, Carnegie Mellon University, was named to the Carnegie Corporation of New York board of trustees.

Cyril H. Wecht was appointed as a member of the review board of the American Investigative Society of Cold Cases.

Mars National Bank hired Jeannette Muhl as vice president, commercial lending, and promoted Stephanie J. Elder to branch manager of the Richland office.

Awards and Honors

The Pittsburgh Business Group on Health recognizes its members' employees who took positive steps in managing health by participating in the PBGH Corporate Wellness Challenge. Challenge Champions for 2013 are Jennifer McPherson, human resources manager, CXT division of L.B. Foster Co.; and Kevin Cooke, formerly of the H.J. Heinz Co. Both Ms. McPherson and Mr. Cooke participated in the program, which pitted their organizations against other PBGH companies -- totaling more than 4,000 employees from 42 locations across the country.

The Pittsburgh Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame will launch Jan. 23, sponsored by UPMC and UPMC Health Plan at the Hard Rock Cafe, Station Square, where nationally recognized concert promoter Rich Engler, former co-owner of Pittsburgh's DiCesare-Engler Productions, will be inducted as the first member. The local Hall of Fame registry will be a "Who's Who," celebrated with an annual event to "pay homage to the tremendously talented individuals and organizations that have contributed to the history of rock and roll music in Pittsburgh."

In recognition of his tenure as a former faculty member at the Purdue University College of Engineering, Daniel Budny, was inducted into Purdue's Book of Great Teachers this December. Mr. Budny is associate professor of civil and environmental engineering and academic director of the Freshman Engineering Program at the University of Pittsburgh Swanson School of Engineering. Purdue's Book of Great Teachers "bears the names of past and present faculty members who have devoted their lives to excellence in teaching and scholarship."
