Associations & Organizations

The Allegheny County Health Department said Jayme Graham of the department's air quality program was elected to the board of the Air & Waste Management Association.

Master Builders' Association announced the appointment of James Frantz to its board. Mr. Frantz is president of TEDCO Construction Inc.


The Rhodes Group hired Laura Miller as director.


PWCampbell said Eric J. Donaldson joined the sales team as a regional vice president in sales and marketing, and Regis J. Makowski was promoted to project manager.


The School of Nursing at Duquesne University named Melissa Kalarchian as its new associate dean for research.

Jefferson Regional Foundation named Mary Phan-Gruber executive director.


Franklin American Mortgage Co. said Kristi Irwin was promoted to vice president, wholesale regional operations manager. She will be responsible for managing the company's operations center in Pittsburgh.


Pittsburgh Three Rivers Marathon Inc., the nonprofit organization that organizes the Dick's Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon and other running-related events, promoted Patrice Matamoros to chief executive officer and Dee Stathis to chief operating officer.

Awards and honors

The Ukrainian Technology Society presented its Ukrainian of the Year Award to Roma Hadzewycz, editor in chief of the Svoboda and The Ukrainian Weekly newspapers, both published by the Ukrainian National Association.

Melvin P. Melnick was named this year's recipient of the Pennsylvania Psychiatric Society's president's award. This award recognizes Dr. Melnick's outstanding contributions to the profession of psychiatry. He is the corporate medical director for Pressley Ridge and on the medical staff of Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic of UPMC Presbyterian, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Health System. He also serves as clinical assistant professor psychiatry at the Drexel University College of Medicine and as clinical instructor of child psychiatry at the Pitt School of Medicine.

Robert Rubinstein, acting executive director of Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh, was named the 2013 Public Executive of the Year by the Novogradac Journal of Tax Credits for his outstanding contributions in the community development field. He was honored for his ethos of innovation, leadership and advocacy of the New Markets Tax Credit program. His involvement has resulted in the development of new financing strategies, neighborhood revitalization programs and sizable community development investments instrumental in transforming the city of Pittsburgh.

The Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association recognized Robert Maher Jr., CGP, as winner of the NASPA Excellence in Innovation Award sponsored by Upsher-Smith Laboratories Inc. The award recognizes a pharmacist who is involved in an innovative pharmacy practice resulting in improved patient care. Mr. Maher is an assistant professor of pharmacy practice at Duquesne and a pharmacist at Patton Pharmacy.

Greg Curtis, chairman and founder, Greycourt, is the recipient of the Thought Leadership Best of the Decade award from The Family Wealth Alliance. He is the author of two books focused on successful wealth management for high net worth investors.

Yoel Sadovsky, director of the Magee-Womens Research Institute and professor of obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive sciences with the Pitt School of Medicine, was elected to the Institute of Medicine. New members are elected by current active members through a selective process that recognizes individuals who have made major contributions to the advancement of the medical sciences, health care and public health.
