The Rivers Club hired Jack Kimbell as its general manager.

Communications

WordWrite Communications promoted Emma Walter to senior account executive.

Consulting

Mitchel Strain joined Bowman Consulting as a senior environmental project manager at the firm's Pittsburgh office. He will be chiefly responsible for ensuring National Environmental Policy Act compliance is maintained across all planning stages of the firm's multiuse civil works projects.

Carole Katz, an attorney with more than 25 years of business executive and litigation experience, has established Carole Katz LLC. The consulting firm provides mediation, arbitration and case evaluation services, and advocacy coaching.

Education

William J. Cook, member of the National Academy of Engineering, was named John Swanson endowed chair and professor of industrial engineering at the University of Pittsburgh Swanson School of Engineering.

Financial

The Home Savings and Loan Co. hired Brian Calabrase and Jeremy Vanzin as senior mortgage loan consultants.

Foundations

The Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association Educational Foundation elected Melissa Somma McGivney, associate professor at the Pitt School of Pharmacy and director of the Community Pharmacy Residency Program as board president; and Jonathan Ference, assistant professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice at the Wilkes University Nesbitt College of Pharmacy & Nursing, as vice president of its board. In addition, Melissa Sherer Krause, consultant pharmacist at Pharmacy Healthcare Solutions Inc., was elected as a member for a two-year term.

Health

Premier Medical Associates said Baowei Tang joined its Internal Medicine team as a board certified rheumatologist.

Insurance

Amy Kaufman joined Penn National Insurance Pittsburgh's regional office as a commercial lines underwriter.

Investment Services

Hefren-Tillotson Inc. added two new members to its board of directors. They are Craig McRoberts, Hefren-Tillotson executive vice president, and Alfred D. Vallano, senior vice president at Hefren-Tillotson.

Nonprofit

Mainstay Life Services hired Ross Watson as program supervisor.

Awards/ Honors

Neurosurgeon and vice chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery at Allegheny General Hospital, Peter J. Jannetta was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Academy of Microscope Enhanced Dentistry. The academy serves the dental profession and the public by being a source of scientific, evidence-based information and an advocate on the advantages of the operating stereomicroscope and associated operative techniques in microdentistry.

The Master Interior Contractors Association honored three construction apprentices with the inaugural Thomas L. Milletary MICA Education Award. The three awardees were Rich Hoover, a carpenter apprentice; Nick O'Blak, a drywall finisher apprentice; and Joseph McCartney Jr., a plasterer apprentice. Each of the apprentices received a check from MICA in the amount of $2,500. Mr. Hoover is a member of Carpenters Local 142 and is employed by Wyatt Inc.; Mr. O'Blak is a member of Drywall Finishers District Council 57 and is employed by Wyatt Inc.; and Mr. McCartney is a member of Plasterers Local 31 and is employed by MBM Contracting.

Paul Furiga, chief storyteller, founder and CEO of WordWrite, was honored with the Hall of Fame Award at the PRSA Pittsburgh Chapter Renaissance Awards. The Renaissance Hall of Fame Award, the chapter's highest honor, is presented to a veteran public relations professional who has made a substantial impact in the Pittsburgh region.
