The accounting practice of Gary J. Merge merged with Kline, Keppel & Koryak, P.C.

Banking

First Commonwealth Financial Corp. appointed Jon L. Gorney to its board. Mr. Gorney is a 37-year veteran of the financial services industry, having served most recently as executive vice president at PNC Financial Services Group.

Gateway Bank said Jeffrey Cheung, CEO was appointed to a newly created Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) Minority Depository Institutions Advisory Committee (MDIAC).

Education

CLG (Continuous Learning Group, Inc.) said Carol Benjamin joined as partner and leader of client management.

Health

Allegheny Valley Hospital said emergency medicine physicians, Rachel E. Friedman, DO; Chad Griffith, DO; Michael McDonald, DO and David M. Druskin PA-C joined its medical staff. Dr. Friedman received her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her emergency medicine residency at Allegheny General Hospital. Dr. Griffith received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg, W.Va. He performed his emergency medicine residency at Memorial Hospital in York, Pa. He will be assuming the role of assistant medical director. Dr. McDonald received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Lauderdale-Davie, Fla. He completed his emergency medicine residency at Ohio Valley Medical Center in Wheeling, WV. David Druskin received a Bachelor in Science degree in Biology from Georgetown University and a Bachelor in Science degree majoring in Allied Health and Physician Assistant from George Washington University.

Drs. Friedman, Griffith, McDonald and David Druskin are with Emergency Medicine Physicians, Ltd. (EMP, Ltd.)

Homecare

Senior Independence of Southwestern Pa., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Redstone Presbyterian SeniorCare, named Laura Malacki as its clinical team leader.

Investment Services

Fairview Capital Investment Management, LLC announced it has opened an eastern U.S. office location at 235 Alpha Drive, O'Hara. The new location for Fairview Capital is being managed by local investment executive Peter F. Mathieson, who assumes the role of president for the Pittsburgh office and Maria Terezis joined as director of client services.

Professional Services

Sydney Carver joined the Event Group as an event assistant.

Novus Staffing Solutions hired Alyssa Kruse as a staffing consultant.

Retail Real Estate

BIG Shopping Centers USA and M&J Wilkow, Ltd. announced new team members to lead The Waterfront. Herky Pollock, executive vice president and northeast director-retailer services group, CBRE, will spearhead leasing efforts; Carole DeAngelo will serve as general manger; and DRB Group is lining up marketing campaigns, social media programs, promotions and special events.

Technology

MindMatrix, Inc. hired Andrew Carlton as channel sales and business development director.

Elsewhere

Pittsburgh native John Sipes joined Annapolis, Md.-based Syndicus, Inc. as director of recruiting and resource management.

Awards and Honors

The Mediation Council of Western Pennsylvania named the recipient of its 2012 Conflict Resolution Day Award, the Honorable Arthur J. Schwab, District Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania ("Western District"). MCWP selected Judge Schwab for this award due to his leadership and support of the Alternative Dispute Resolution ("ADR") Program since it was implemented in the Western District in 2006.

Elizabeth Skidmore, associate professor, Department of Occupational Therapy, University of Pittsburgh was awarded the 2012 Deborah L. Wilkerson Early Career Award from the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine. The award is presented annually to the most promising member who is in her early rehabilitation research career. Ms. Skidmore's research examines cognitive and affective influences on activities of daily living disability and cognitively-focused interventions to ameliorate disability.

Hoddy Hanna, CEO, Howard Hanna Real Estate Services, received the '2012 Lifetime Achievement Award' from the Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) Pittsburgh District. The award was presented for his distinguished service to the community, his support of Jewish people and the State of Israel. The 2012 Co-Lifetime Achievement Honoree is Linda Hurwitz, past director of the Holocaust Center of Pittsburgh.
