Awards/Honors

Universal Stainless & Alloy Products Inc. said Dennis M. Oates -- chairman, president and chief executive officer -- received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year 2012 Award in the Industrial Products and Services category for the Western Pennsylvania and West Virginia region.

The award recognizes outstanding entrepreneurs who demonstrate excellence and extraordinary success in areas such as innovation, financial performance and personal commitment to their businesses and communities.

Redstone Presbyterian SeniorCare said Andy Morgan, chef supervisor at Redstone's Greensburg campus, was named a top 10 winner in the Culinary Creations Contest by the Premier health care alliance.

Elisabeth "Lisa" Schroeder, president and chief executive officer of Riverlife, is AIA Pittsburgh's 2012 Gold Medal awardee. The award honors a community leader who has made a significant contribution to the profession based on a candidate's role in generating policy, raising public awareness and/or leading a specific effort regarding quality architectural design in the Pittsburgh region.

The Pittsburgh Venture Capital Association honored two entrepreneurs for their accomplishments and contributions to the business community at a luncheon held at the Duquesne Club. Donald H. Jones, managing director and founding partner of Draper Triangle Ventures, was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award, and Dennis Ciccone, CEO of Carnegie Learning Inc., was bestowed the 2012 Outstanding Entrepreneur of the Year Award.

The Sustainable Energy Fund honored David Hughes, founder and president of Pittsburgh-based Citizen Power, with the Epstein Award, a lifetime achievement award. The award is named after Eric Epstein, a Harrisburg-area community advocate who has worked to promote the use of safe energy sources since the Three Mile Island nuclear plant accident in 1979.

Brittany Basham, human resource specialist at NexTier Bank, earned certification as a Professional in Human Resources. The certification, awarded by the HR Certification Institute, signifies that Ms. Basham possesses the theoretical knowledge and practical experience in human resource management necessary to pass a rigorous examination demonstrating a mastery of the field.
