Banking

Norman J. Montgomery was promoted to executive vice president, business integration, for First Commonwealth Bank.

Brentwood Bank recently appointed Nicholas Garrubba executive vice president for loan and credit administration; Thomas Young senior vice president administration and treasurer; David Hrycko vice president, and still chief accounting officer; and Jennifer Frazier assistant vice president, and still controller.

Education

The School of Sustainability and the Environment at Chatham University named to its faculty Michael H. Finewood, assistant professor of sustainability; Molly G. Mehling, assistant professor of ecology and sustainability; Crystal L. Fortwangler, assistant professor of sustainability and anthropology; and Allen G. Matthews, director and instructor of sustainable agriculture. Founded in 2009, the SSE is a transdisciplinary academic institution that provides sustainable answers to today's regional, national and global social, economic and environmental concerns.

Engineering

Rettew hired Kelly M. Jones as civil/highway engineer in the its Pittsburgh transportation group and Jennifer M. Marriott as environmental scientist, Pittsburgh office.

Nonprofit

Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre said six new members on its board of trustees are Susan Cruz, managing director responsible for the Southern Alabama and Northwest Florida markets, Merrill Lynch; Paul Dobson, senior vice president, pricing and operations, Direct Energy Business; Maryann Reabe, continuous improvement manager, Peoples Natural Gas; Diana Reid, executive vice president of The PNC Financial Services Group and head of PNC Real Estate, the bank's commercial real estate business; Ann Schwab, retired; and Markus Weber, vice president and chief information officer of MSA, The Safety Company.

Awards

Legend Financial Advisors Inc. said Linda Thayer, paraplanner, was honored with the "Make the Connection" award for 2011 by the National Association of Women Business Owners of Greater Pittsburgh.

Costas Grekis, financial adviser at Clearview Federal Credit Union, registered through CUNA Brokerage Services Inc., was named the organization's 2010 MVP. The award recognizes the top representative in overall achievement within the broker-dealer.

Matthew Robison and Dyanna Coholich of Smoker Friendly 15 have earned the designations of certified retail tobacconists from Tobacconist University, the official curriculum resource of the International Premium Cigar & Pipe Retailers Association.

The Chinese American Librarians Association named Rush G. Miller, director of Pitt's University Library System and Hillman University librarian, the recipient of the 2011 CALA Distinguished Service Award, the association's highest recognition. Mr. Miller was recognized for his leadership, vision and achievements in librarianship at the national and international levels. He developed the ULS-China Librarians Training and Exchange Program, which allows Chinese librarians to spend six months to a year at Pitt to visit and learn from libraries in the United States; ULS librarians do the same in China.

Rodney Piatt, CEO of Horizon Properties Group, was awarded with Choice Hotels International's prestigious Developer of the Year award. Mr. Piatt recently developed and opened the first two hotels of the "upscale yet affordable" Cambria Suites brand in the state of Pennsylvania: The newest one is next to the Consol Energy Center, Uptown, and was built in partnership with the Pittsburgh Penguins. In October 2010, Piatt opened the first all-suites Cambria Suites property in Washington County on Racetrack Road. The Developer of the Year recognizes the best developers in the Choice Hotels system.
