Among the rest of the top 10 banks in the region, all but First Niagara also added deposit market share over the last year, but none nearly as much as Pittsburgh-based PNC.
Rhode Island-based Citizens Bank retained its distant No. 2 spot in the Pittsburgh region with a 7.6 percent share of deposits (up from 7.1 percent a year earlier), followed by FNB in Hermitage at 4.1 percent (up from 3.7 percent) and Pittsburgh-based Dollar Bank at 3.8 percent (up from 3.6 percent).
The latest rankings were based on deposit data for the seven-county Pittsburgh region.
Buffalo, N.Y.-based First Niagara remained No. 5 locally with a 2.9 percent share of deposits, the same as last year.
Rounding out the top 10 were Columbus, Ohio's Huntington (2.7 percent, up from 2.6); First Commonwealth in Indiana, Pa. (2.6 percent vs. 2.5 percent); S&T, also based in Indiana, Pa. (1.8 percent vs. 1.6 percent); Northwest Savings in Warren, Pa. (1.1 percent vs. 1.08 percent); and ESB in Ellwood City and Washington, Pa.-based Washington Financial, which tied for No. 10 with 0.91 percent of deposits in the region.
Washington Financial, a 114-year-old institution with eight offices in Washington County, moved up from No. 11 last year. It is listed as having deposits of $859.8 million, slightly more than ESB's $857.8 million.
The top 10 rankings exclude Bank of New York Mellon, which sold its branch banking business to Citizens in 2001, and TriState Capital Bank, a boutique bank serving midsized businesses and high net worth individuals.
