The unemployment rate in the seven-county Pittsburgh region rose two-tenths of one percentage point in January to 7.5 percent.

The unemployment rate is seasonally adjusted.

The number of jobs in the region, which is not seasonally adjusted, fell by 31,900 in January from December.

That included holiday jobs, but also local budget cuts as 3,000 jobs were lost in public schools and 2,400 state jobs were eliminated.

The seven-country region of the Pittsburgh metropolitan region includes Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Washington and Westmoreland Counties.
