PNC Bank customers will not have to pay any PNC fees, such as overdraft fees, they may incur as a result of an apparent cyberattack on the bank's website in recent days that created problems for people trying to log into their accounts, spokesman Fred Solomon said Friday. A number of big banks have been hit recently by so-called denial of service attacks, which flood websites with communications requests. Problems began for PNC.com Wednesday, and customers continued to report "sporadic" access problems into Friday, Mr. Solomon said.
The United Steelworkers union said more than 16,000 workers at U.S. Steel's U.S. sheet steel and iron ore operations ratified a three-year contract that provides a 2 percent wage increase next September and a 2.5 percent increase in January 2015. The contract expires Sept. 1, 2015. The steel producer said an identical contract covering about 1,000 workers at U.S. Steel's tubular plant in Lone Star, Texas, was also ratified.
The Commerce Department said Friday that consumer spending rose 0.5 percent in August from July even though their income grew only 0.1 percent. Much of the spending increase went to pay higher gas prices.
Mylan Inc. said it received regulatory approval for the generic version of Sanofi's Avapro and Avalide tablets. Both drugs are used to treat high blood pressure.businessnews
