VA For Vets

This facilitates the reintegration, retention and hiring of veteran employees at the Department of Veterans Affairs. Offers career-search tools for veterans seeking employment at VA, career development services for our existing veterans and coaching and reintegration support for military service members.

PA CareerLink

The state-run career counseling center network. There are dozens of offices around the state and each one has a veterans representative who will assist with career counseling, resume writing and other support.

Transition Forward

The CHAMBER of Commerce Inc., serving North Pittsburgh, Northern Allegheny and Cranberry corridors, holds this quarterly employment seminar focusing on goal planning, resume writing, networking tips and interview skills -- with feedback. The next seminar will be held May 17 at Robert Morris University campus in Moon.

Veterans Leadership Program of Western Pennsylvania

Office provides housing, employment, and other services to eligible veterans, service members and their families. Downtown Pittsburgh and Johnstown locations.

Operation Troop Employment Job Fair

On May 15, Dollar Bank joins with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Soldiers and Sailors and Allegheny County to host the third annual Operation Troop Employment job fair for military veterans. FOR EMPLOYERS

America's Heroes at Work

www.americasheroesatwork.gov is a Department of Labor technical assistance and public awareness campaign targeting America's employers. America's Heroes at Work focuses on the employment challenges of returning service members and veterans living with Traumatic Brain Injury and/or Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. The initiative equips employers and military support systems with the tools they need to help veterans affected by these conditions succeed in the workplace.

Veterans Employment and Training Service (VETS) is also working with the private sector to increase the employment of veterans and returning service members. The first of these initiatives is with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber, in partnership with VETS and ESGR, will have conducted more than 400 hiring fairs for veterans, transitioning service members and their spouses by the end of this year. Through this partnership, the Chamber and its affiliates secure the participation of employers, while the VETS team and ESGR focus on participation by veterans, transitioning service members, and their spouses.

The trucking industry in general has nearly 200,000 unfilled jobs for skilled truck drivers with commercial drivers licenses. Ryder Trucking is one company that is actively recruiting veterans on its website.

U.S. Green Building Council

The "green" building industry is looking for LEED-certified construction workers, and this site provides a comprehensive listing of green jobs. Veterans can get that LEED certification reiumbursed by the Post-9/11 GI Bill. The U.S. Green Building Council has 15,000 member companies who have pledged to hire veterans.
