Inpatient obstetrics services at Allegheny General Hospital will be moved to West Penn Hospital, and its inpatient psychiatric programs will be relocated to the Alle-Kiski Medical Center and the West Penn Hospital -- Forbes Regional campuses.

The announcement was made in a memo sent to West Penn Allegheny Health System staff yesterday morning by Dawn Gideon, executive vice president and chief of hospital operations.

The moves, expected to be completed within a year, are designed to free up space at AGH "to accommodate the hospital's busy critical care program and the significant need for additional critical care beds in the City of Pittsburgh," the memo said.

Inpatient obstetrics still will be available at the Forbes campus, and AGH will continue to offer ambulatory obstetrical care and outpatient psychiatric services.

The moves are part of West Penn Allegheny's plans to integrate and consolidate services at its various campuses.
