RE2 partners with Texas A&M for research

Lawrencville-based robotics company RE2 will team up with Texas A&M University‘‍s A&M AgriLife Extension Service to examine how robotics can aid the viticulture industry. The entities will work together as a subcontractor for the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture Foundation program “Assessing Viticulture Production Practices for Robotic Technology Development.”

NHTSA opens 2 new Chrysler investigations

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Wednesday it has opened two new investigations into Chrysler over complaints that the ignition key could shut the engine off involuntarily and may cause air bags not to deploy in a crash. The investigations cover about 1.2 million vehicles.

Amazon linking new Fire phone to its services

Amazon has introduced a new smartphone, the Fire, which will share many characteristics found in other Amazon devices, such as X-Ray for supplemental content and Mayday for live tech support. AT&T will be the exclusive carrier for the new phone, which will be available July 25 for $200 for a base model with 32 gigabytes with a two-year service contract.

BlackBerry to make Amazon Appstore available

BlackBerry is adding the Amazon Appstore in the next update to its operating system this fall. That will give users of the BlackBerry 10.3 operating system easy access to thousands more of the most popular Android apps and games.

Genealogy tree site hacked

Ancestry.com says the genealogy site was offline much of Tuesday after being hacked. Officials at the Provo, Utah-based company say hackers on Monday afternoon fooled the site into thinking there was an inordinate amount of traffic flooding it, which crashed its server.
