Launch nears for GetGo store in Elizabeth
The first GetGo convenience store in Pennsylvania selling beer is scheduled to open next week in Elizabeth. O’Hara grocer Giant Eagle, which owns the GetGo stores, said locations in Ohio, West Virginia and Maryland already offer beer, but Pennsylvania rules previously kept the company from adding that feature here.
Purchase of North Shore hospital’s assets in works
LifeCare Hospitals of Pittsburgh, which provides long-term acute care hospital services, has announced plans to acquire real estate “and selected assets” of Kindred Hospital Pittsburgh North Shore in a deal expected to be completed later this summer.
Consumer spending down 0.1 percent in April
Consumer spending, which accounts for 70 percent of overall economic activity, fell 0.1 percent in April, the Commerce Department said Friday. The drop was the first in 12 months. Friday’s government report also showed that income rose 0.3 percent in April.
Buyer sentiment falls on gloomy wage outlook
Consumer confidence fell in May as Americans grew more pessimistic about future pay increases. The University of Michigan says that its index of consumer sentiment dropped to 81.9 in May from 84.1 in April.
