1 in custody after fatal crash in Ellsworth

An Ellsworth man was arrested on charges he fled the scene of a fatal crash after his truck struck and killed a person walking alongside Route 917, or Main Street,, in his hometown Friday night.

The suspect, Robert L. Myers Jr., 42, was taken into custody by state police and transported to Washington Hospital for suspicion of driving under the influence.

According to state police, Mr. Myers was driving a gray Dodge Ram pickup truck southbound at 8:40 p.m. when at 110 S. Main St. the vehicle struck the person, who was walking along the roadside’s edge. The person’s name and gender were not immediately released.

Police said the vehicle left the scene of the accident, where the victim was pronounced dead. 

The vehicle was later located and Mr. Myers was taken into custody.
