The Duquesne women's basketball team completed a sweep of its district rivals with a 66-63 victory against visiting Robert Morris today at Palumbo Center.
The Dukes defeated Robert Morris, Pitt and West Virginia in the same season for the first time since 1995-96.
"Absolutely it means something," Duquesne Coach Suzie McConnell-Serio said. "This is about pride. There's additional emotion when it comes to rivalries."
The Dukes got 25 points and 10 rebounds from sophomore forward Wumi Agunmiade against Robert morris (8-4) to raise their record to 12-2. Agunmiade was pokedin the right eye in the final minute and suffered a cut under her eye that required a cold compress but won't need stitches. Vanessa Abel and Carly Vendemia reach had 11 points and Alex Gensler 10.
The Dukes struggled throughout against the scrappy Colonials, who put up a spirited effort behind Artemis Spanou (18 points 14 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 blocks) Mary Durojaye (14 points, 9 rebounds) and April Williams (17 points).
