UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- No. 3 Alabama cruised to a 27-11 victory over No. 23 Penn State today in front of a crowd of 107,846 at Beaver Stadium.
Trent Richardson scored on runs of 1 and 13 yards, AJ McCarron tossed a 5-yard touchdown pass to tight end Michael Williams and Jeremy Shelley kick field goals of 22 and 18 yards for the Crimson Tide (2-0).
Evan Lewis' 43-yard field goal in the first quarter and Silas Redd's 1-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter were the only scores or the Nittany Lions (1-1), who were trounced 24-3 last year by Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
McCarron completed 19 of 31 passes for 163 yards and one touchdown, while Richardson ran for 111 yards on 26 carries and scored twice.
Rob Bolden started at quarterback for Penn State, but completed just 11 of 29 passes for 144 yards with an interception. Matt McGloin also played, but was only 1 of 10 for 0 yards.
