Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl today invited city high school students to apply for the city's inaugural Youth Civic Leadership Academy.

The program, modeled after an existing program for adults, will offer an inside look at city government.

As many as 20 youths will be selected for the program. Sessions will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. each Wednesday from July 6 to Aug. 10.

Applications are available at cla.pittsburghpa.gov. They must be submitted by 5 p.m. May 25, and the youths selected to participate will be notified by mid June.

Applicants must be city residents.

The youth academy is part of the mayor's ServePGH program, a series of initiatives designed to increase community involvement. The academy will encourage participants to undertake community service projects.
