Former WNBA coach Patty Coyle will join the Pitt women's basketball team as an assistant, the school announced today.

Coyle coached the New York Liberty from 2004 to 2009, leading the team to four playoff appearances in five seasons. She was fired in 2009.

As a head coach at Loyola College in Maryland, Coyle led her teams to two NCAA tournament appearances. She is Loyola's winningest coach, compiling a 100-77 record in six years.

She replaces Yolett McPhee-McCuin, who left in April for a similar position at Clemson.
