Robert Morris basketball coach Mike Rice will leave for Rutgers, a source with knowledge of the situation said today. The two sides were working on a deal this afternoon.

Rice, 41, signed a contract extension on April 9, before then-Rutgers coach Fred Hill Jr. resigned under pressure from the university.

He was 73-31 in three seasons at Robert Morris, leading the Colonials to two NCAA tournament appearances.

Associate head coach Andy Toole is considered a strong candidate to replace Rice, the source said.
