Pitt coach Jamie Dixon has received his second verbal commitment for the recruiting class of 2011. Jaylen Bond, a 6-foot-7, 205-pound forward from Plymouth Whitemarsh High School near Philadelphia, joins another Philadelphia area recruit, John Johnson.
Bond, ranked No. 93 in the ESPN rankings, is a junior and helped lead Plymouth Whitemarsh to the PIAA Class AAAA championship last month. He averaged 18.6 points per game.
"He's a big body who can run the floor, he's very powerful in transition and very powerful around the basket," said Plymouth Whitemarsh head coach Jim Donofrio. "And he's a young kid. He doesn't turn 17 until May. His strength is already pretty impressive for a high school kid. He is a power player. A lot of people have said that he looks and plays like a Pitt kid."
Donofrio said Pitt came on strong the past few months and let Bond know that he was one of its main recruiting targets when Dixon went to Chambersburg to watch a PIAA Class AAAA semifinal game against North Allegheny. Bond took an unofficial visit to Pitt last week when he played in an AAU tournament at the Petersen Events Center.
