Pitt standout tailback LeSean McCoy is apparently at least entertaining the possibility of staying in school as he called Panthers coach Dave Wannstedt earlier this evening and told him he needs more time to make a decision about his future and that he is not ready to make up his mind about his immediate future.
McCoy is trying to decide between staying in school and leaving early for the NFL draft and though all indications are still there that he will ultimately declare himself eligible for this year's NFL draft, Wannstedt and Pitt fans everywhere now has reason to hold out hope that he may have a change of heart and stay in school.
Pitt spokesman E.J. Borghetti sent out the following statement on the matter:
"LeSean McCoy spoke to Coach Dave Wannstedt this afternoon and said he is not ready to make a final decision on the NFL Draft. Coach Wannstedt encouraged LeSean to take the time he needs to make such an important decision."
McCoy has until the Thursday, Jan. 15th deadline for underclassmen to declare for the 2009 NFL Draft to make up his mind.
