A Penn Hills man was charged today with homicide in the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old Wilkinsburg boy that occured shortly after midnight in the parking lot of the Save-A-Lot on Ross Street on Ross Street in Wilkinsburg.
Allegheny County homicide detectives identified the shooter as Donald Scott, 45, of Penn Hills.
According to a press release from the county police, the investigation determined that a private party had ended at a nearby building and an altercation started between an adult male and a group of youths in the parking lot of the Save-A-Lot supermarket.
The investigation revealed that the adult male went to his vehicle to retrieve a handgun and began shooting before leaving the scene in his vehicle. According to detectives, they have no information to indicate whether the two victims were involved in the initial altercation.
Derrick House, 17, of Wilkinsburg, was shot and killed. A 15-year-old boy from Wilkinsburg was shot in the arm and leg and is in fair condition at a local hospital, according to the release.
Mr. Scott was charged with one count each of criminal homicide, aggravated assault and a firearms violation. He is in the Allegheny County Jail.
