VILLANOVA, Pa. -- Villanova beat Pitt, 64-63, this afternoon in Pitt's Big East opener at the Pavilion. Villanova forward Dante Cunningham made two free throws with 10.3 seconds remaining to give the Wildcats the lead.

Pitt senior guard Ronald Ramon tried to penetrate toward the hoop as time ticked down, but he lost the ball. That was one of five turnovers for Ramon, who is filling in at point guard while Levance Fields recovers from a fractured foot. Pitt had 22 turnovers overall.

Pitt was led by junior forward Sam Young, who had 16 points. Keith Benjamin (15), DeJuan Blair (12) and Gilbert Brown (10) also scored in double figures.

More details in tomorrow's Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
