RTI International Metals said yesterday it will promote former U.S. Steel attorney and University of Pittsburgh law professor Dawne S. Hickton to vice chairman and chief executive officer in April following the retirement of current President and CEO Timothy G. Rupert.
Ms. Hickton, 49, has been with the Niles, Ohio, titanium producer since 1997, when she was named vice president and general counsel. The Thornburg resident was elevated to senior vice president and principal financial officer in July 2005.
The announcement is the latest evidence of the slow, steady progress female executives have made in the metals industry in recent years and comes as RTI and other titanium producers benefit from strong orders from the aerospace and defense industry.
