The owner of a now-closed Downtown hot dog shop has been convicted of failing to pay state taxes.

The state department of revenue reported today that Ilcho "Lee" Yovanof, 52, former owner of Yovi's Little Bit of Chicago on Liberty Avenue, was sentenced to 10 years of probation for failing to pay state sales tax collected from customers and employer withholding taxes collected from employees.

Mr. Yovanof pleaded guilty Monday to 42 counts.

He was also ordered to pay $8,400 in fines and court costs. Mr. Yovanof paid $19,439 to the state prior to sentencing for the sales and employer withholding taxes owed between February 2003 and November 2005. Mr. Yovanof also failed to file state personal income tax returns in 2003 and 2004, the state reported in a news release.

Mr. Yovanof was previously convicted on state tax violations in 1993 and 1997.

His restaurant closed in July.
