State Rep. Ken Ruffing, of West Mifflin, waived his right to a preliminary hearing today on allegations that he was driving while intoxicated on Aug. 19 in Munhall.

District Judge Thomas Torkowsky scheduled the Democratic legislator's formal arraignment for Jan. 5 at 1 p.m.

Mr. Ruffing, 39, a former insurance agent who lives with his wife and two sons, was arrested at about 8 p.m. on a Saturday night. Police charged him with one count of driving under the influence, according to an affidavit of probable cause.
