Only 15 when she married, Virginia Kelley Reyes called her seven children "baby dolls." Last week, she turned 100 surrounded by her family, which now includes 22 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

She was born Sept. 11, 1913, in Leetsdale to David and Margaret Kelley.

She was married to Peter Reyes for 59 years until he died at age 83 in 1985.

Their seven children are: Sallie Waynar of Avonmore, James Reyes of North Huntingdon, Judy Reyes of North Versailles, with whom she lives, and Fred Reyes, Eleanore Denne, Lois Nanney and Virginia Ivan, all deceased.

Mrs. Reyes was an Avon lady in McKeesport for 45 years and belonged to the Old Timers Bowling League for 15 years, serving two years as treasurer.

When she was 97, some of her grandchildren took her bowling again. She finally stopped driving at that same age. She enjoys eating out and shopping.

Corsetiere turns 106

Margarete "Greta" Gourse, the oldest resident of Concordia of the South Hills, recently celebrated her 106th birthday.

The former Margaret Erdheim was born in Vienna, Austria, on Sept. 1, 1907, and lived there with her parents and older sister. She married Ernest Erdheim in 1927, and in March 1938, they fled to Brussels, Belgium, to escape the Nazis. After the Nazis occupied Belgium, they lived in France.

In 1949, she and her husband immigrated to America. They settled in San Francisco and she found work as a corsetiere at I. Magnin department store, where she worked for 20 years.

After her first husband died, she married Milton Gourse, When he became ill, her only living relative, niece Lisa Palminera, convinced her to move to Pittsburgh.

In April 2004, she moved to Covenant, now Concordia. Her friends attribute her longevity to her sense of humor.
