The boys lived in a predominantly Protestant housing area in Ballymoney with their Catholic mother and her Protestant boyfriend. The mother insisted on a Catholic burial. Police believe the mother's religion was a cause of the firebombing, which has been blamed on a Protestant paramilitary group.
