11. "Gator" artist unknown, 408 N. Pacific Ave., Garfield.
11. 'Gator' mural
A shiny, burgundy camper van turns right down North Pacific Avenue. On its bumper is a blue silhouetted alligator with the word "Gators" written in orange across its body.
Soon the van passes a mural that represents the neighborhood mascot, the Garfield Gator.
Who painted it or when is unknown. Of the dozen murals in this package, it is the only anonymous guerrilla art.
The mascot is painted in five shades of green against an orange background on a chipped concrete canvas. Three blocks away is Fort Pitt Field, the Gators' home stadium.
The Garfield Gators, a neighborhood youth football team, competes in the Allegheny County Midget Football League.
Other teams are from Braddock, East Liberty, Homewood, Hill District, Lincoln-Larimer, North Side and Wilkinsburg.
